Hello all

And here we are again, having survived the end of the world as we know it.
Funny story: two minutes after I had sent my last mailing to you all, my
computer crashed (as I was trying to back up the encyclopedia before putting
it to bed for the year). Scared the bejeezus out of me but, thankfully, was
not a sign of hideous things to come.

Thankfully, the work had not piled up too much during my three weeks off so
it was not complete madness when I came back. There was the usual e-mailbox
litter - the continuing problem of youngsters (in more and more desperate
e-mails) trying to get me to do their homework for them. (God forbid one of
them is a hacker who destroys the site out of anger that I say, "No.")

How do you like this: a certain big organization sends along their dates for
the Calendar; I spend an hour putting them in and posting them. Oops! They
haven't officially announced the events to the press, could I please remove
all the dates...they will resubmit after they announce to the press! What
would you do with this? Cry? Tear them a new orifice? Laugh? I removed the
dates while watching the vein on my neck throb...
