Hello all

Happy holidays to you all!

Also, the figures for the first week in December show that 23,000+ people
visited the site which is about 10,000 more than the same time last year.
(And about 18,000 more from the same time two years ago!) So we grow and
grow.

Indeed, with the new profiles listed below, The Encyclopedia of Canadian
Theatre on the WWW now contains over 1300 profiles (this does not include
the hundreds of reviews, the documents archived at the site and all the
other bells and whistles). This is somewhat of a milestone. You might
remember that when the project was launched in September 1998, there were
1000 profiles - virtually every one added since has been proposed by a
visitor to the site who, in many cases, provided the information necessary
to write the profile. Thanks to all.

A little history set straight; Robert MacKay, who was with the Acadia
Dramatic Society, wished to help me sort out the who's who of the premiere
of an important Canadian work, "Fortune and Men's Eyes." I had, in the
profile, the Quat'Sous production, in French, listed as the Canadian
premiere; as it turns out, it was not - the first performances of the work
were done by the Acadia Dramatic Society in 1968; the first professional
production was at Quat'Sous in 1970. I tell you all this because it shows,
again, how people across the country participate in the improvement of the
Encyclopedia. Thank you Mr. MacKay.

Sotlight letter #1:
"I have been working on [a play] for close to five years now and I
find your analysis [of it] quite skewed...Of course everyone has a right to
their
opinion, but it should (especially if publicized) be an educated one. Thank
you for your time..."
Whew! I told Madam about my 25 years in the theatre and ten years as a
professional theatre journalist and suggested it probably trumped her five
years on this one play.

Spotlight letter #2:
"Discuss the role of the women in [this Canadian play] ... or tell me
the roles of two characters in the play and how are they to help me to
understand some of the themes of the play. Thanks"
I sent him the standard "Sorry I can't help" form letter. It sort of makes
you wonder why he doesn't just fax me all of his homework for the term!
