The Department of English, Theatre Programme, at the University
of Maniotba invites applications for a full-time tenure track position
at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2001, or soon
thereafter (subject to final budgetary approval).  We welcome
applications in Theatre.  Our needs encompass the making,
analysis, and study of theatre, performance, and
theatrical/dramatic texts, and we particularly invite applications
from persons with interest and competence in one of: acting, voice,
dramaturgy, costume design; and one of: performance theory,
theatre history, dramatic literature.  Applicants must have
completed the Ph.D. by the date of appointment.

The starting salary will reflect qualifications and experience of the
chosen candidate.  The annual teaching load is 15 credit hours per
year.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach a first-
year course as well as undergraduate courses in his or her area(s)
of specialization, and will be granted a half-course load reduction
for the first two years.  Additional duties will include research and
creative activities, department/community service, involvement in
the preparation of productions for the University's theatre from time
to time, and contributions to the administration of the Theatre
Programme and company.  Staff are eligible to apply to university
programs in aid of research, and will receive both a travel and a
professional development allowance.

The University of Manitoba is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, a
vibrant city with a highly developed arts and cultural scene,
including symphony orchestra, ballet, opera, the second biggest
Fringe Theatre Festival in North America, and very activie writing,
film, and theatre communities.  The Department of English offers
M.A. and Ph.D. programs in literature and undergraduates
programs in literature, film, and theatre.  The Department operates
a media lab and offers both scholarly and creative thesis options for
the M.A.  The Theatre Programme works closely with the Prairie
Theatre Exchange, an Approved Teaching Centre of the University,
and also collaborates with the Manitoba Theatre Centre on creative
projects.
