Good Morning

It is with pleasure and pride that I share the following information with
members of the Candrama list.

ASSITEJ Canada team wins their bid to host the 15th ASSITEJ World Congress
and
Performing Arts Festival in Montrial in 2005
Seoul, July 27, 2002- Montrial will be the host city for the next World
Congress and Performing Arts Festival of ASSITEJ International, the
International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People, an
association with members in over 75 countries world-wide.

The decision was made on July 25th, during the 14th World Congress in
Seoul,
Korea. Canada was competing with Australia and Great Britain to host this
triennial event. Rimi Boucher, president of ASSITEJ Canada and Artistic
Director of Coups de thibtre in Montrial, Joanne James, Artistic Director
of
the Calgary International Children's Festival, and Marie France Polidori
of the
Montrial Convention Centre offered a convincing presentation to the 139
voting
delegates representing 47 countries from all continents. Other members
of the
Canadian delegation included Lyse Richer, General Secretary of ASSITEJ
Canada
and Associate General Director of Coups de thibtre, Danielle Leclerc,
President of TUEJ, a group of 34 TYA companies, Tamara Huggan, Coordinator
of ASSITEJ
Canada, Hilhne Beauchamp, Universiti du Quibec ` Montrial, and Lindy
Sisson,
Artistic Director of the Vancouver International Children's Festival.

Montrial's presentation proposed a "Focus on the Americas" as Montrial
2005's
major theme. It succeeded in demonstrating the richness and vitality of
the
city's theatre for young audiences scene in both creation and
presentation, as
well as its cosmopolitan qualities, its international accessibility and
its
impressive track record at hosting large international arts and cultural
events. The result was a strong majority vote.

Montrial 2005 will bring together more than 2500 artists from around the
globe
to present, discuss and explore the current ideas and creation driving the
arts for young audiences. The main aspects of the event will be a
Festival where
forty productions from all continents, fifteen of these from the Americas,
will
be presented, a colloquium, the General Assembly, and an exhibition where
all
member countries will have the opportunity to share their artistic ideas
with
other creators and the general public.

The newly revitalized Montrial based ASSITEJ Canada Centre, has made a
bold
move in bringing the ASSITEJ World Congress to Montrial in 2005,
demonstrating
its commitment to building stronger links between Canadian companies
working
for young audiences and the international arts for young audiences scene.
Canadian presenters, festivals and theatre companies will all be involved
in
broadening the scope of this event, through touring opportunities in
Canada and
the United States.
