LMDA Canada and the Theatre Centre
present the fifth annual
MINI-CONFERENCE ON DRAMATURGY
July 8 & 9, 2002, in Toronto
------------------------------
This two day conference will focus on dramaturgical case studies in which
dramaturgs, directors and writers discuss the process by which recent shows
have been created.
The conference as a whole will serve as a follow-up to the LMDA's annual
international conference to be held in Vancouver in June 2002, focusing on
new play development. The Toronto mini-conference will feature reports on
the Vancouver discussions and explore application of ideas and initiatives
arising from those sessions.
The Mini-Conference dates are during the Fringe of Toronto Festival, which
runs July 4 to 14 at many venues around the city. Attending the conference
and the Fringe is a great way to see exciting new theatre and talk with your
colleagues about the myriad ways it is created.
Participants include:
Rachel Ditor (dramaturg, Arts Club Theatre; Rumble Productions, Vancouver)
Celia McBride (playwright)
Ross Manson (artistic director, Volcano, Toronto)
Michael Miller (playwright; General Manager, Obsidian Theatre, Toronto)
Brian Quirt (director/dramaturg, Nightswimming and Factory Theatre,
Toronto)
Djanet Sears (playwright/director)
Wayne Strongman (artistic director, Tapestry New Opera Words, Toronto)
Vern Thiessen (playwright; Artistic Associate, Citadel Theatre, Edmonton)
A detailed schedule of conference sessions will be released in late May.
