1. The Appointment
Applications are invited from distinguished researchers for the above
post. Candidates with a specialism in Performance and the Public or
Theatre History and Historiography will be particularly welcome.
We are looking for an outstanding, energetic researcher, research
leader and Head of Department, who will pursue and direct research of
international visibility in the Drama and Theatre Arts field, will
offer the Department strong research vision, and will take charge of
Drama and Theatre Arts’ strategic research planning. He or she will
consolidate and enhance the Department’s research profile, taking it in
directions that build on current strengths, and will prepare
strategically for the next Research Assessment Exercise. The postholder
will help to connect Departmental research activity with parallel
activities undertaken elsewhere in the School of Humanities and in
other Schools of the University, fostering interdisciplinary and
collaborative interaction where relevant and appropriate. He or she
will collaborate with the Head of the School of Humanities and the
School’s Research Director to take forward School-wide research
planning operated by the School’s Research Strategy Group. As Head of
Department, the postholder will be committed to managing the
Department’s quality assurance and staff structures. S/he will lead its
continued evolution, not only through research management but also
through his or her own research and undergraduate/postgraduate teaching
work. Equally, in the teaching arena, s/he will play a key role in
ongoing Drama and Theatre Studies curriculum development. S/he will
direct Departmental postgraduate recruitment initiatives and will be
involved, where relevant, in School- and Institution wide developmental
initiatives. As a senior colleague, s/he be expected where appropriate
to contribute to School administration. S/he will require therefore
considerable and proven managerial and administrative skills. The
successful candidate will demonstrate an exemplary record of scholarly
publication.
