To those of you in Toronto:
I went last night (it was indeed rainy!) to Toronto Masque Theatre's
_Masques for a Reaney Day: A Portrait of James Reaney: Music, Poetry, and
Drama_, 13-16 Jan 2005, Tarragon Theatre Extra Space, and thought that
those of you interested in Canadian literature, drama, new music, will
find this a worthwhile performance to check out. The programme comprises
of three pieces:
Two Songs (2004), music by contemporary Cdn composer Abigail Richardson,
texts by Reaney -- this is a new song setting of two Reaney poems
"In the Middle of Ordinary Noise . . .": An Auditory Masque" (1992),
music by John Beckwith, text by Reaney
-- a musical mosaic portrait of Northrope Frye; this piece includes
a narrator, 4 musicians, and two singers (baritone, soprano)
_One-Man Masque_ (1960) by Reaney, directed and performed by Jeff Culbert
-- life, death, and events in between.
Cheers, -- Kathy.
