Toronto Fringe Festival New Play Contest Applications Available

APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE FOR THE FRINGES 

SEVENTH ANNUAL NEW PLAY CONTEST!

The Fringe of Toronto Theatre Festival July 5-16, 2006

On November 16th, 2005, The Toronto Fringe Festival will begin accepting submissions for its seventh annual New Play Contest. Entry is first-come, first-served and the deadline to submit a script is December 9th or until 80 applications have been received.   A jury will determine the winners and they will be announced at the Fringe Lottery Party in February. First Prize is a spot in the 2006 Fringe of Toronto Theatre Festival and $300 cash.  Second place will receive $250 and third place will receive $100.   Past winners include: Bella Donna by David Copelin (2005), Stealing Freedom by Stephanie Nickerson (2004), That Boy by Paul Gibson (2003) and Fish/Wife by Rick Roberts (2002). Each played to sold-out houses during The Fringe.

·        Plays must be a new, original work.

·        Plays must not have been previously produced however plays that have been workshopped are still eligible.

·        The playwright may have received funding to create or workshop the play.

·        Plays entered must have a performance time of 90 minutes or less. 

·        New this year, the contest is open to permanent residents of Canada. 

·        One application per playwright allowed.

·        The winner must use the Fringe slot to produce the play that was submitted to the contest.

 The entry fee for the contest is $25.
