The University of Windsor's School of Dramatic Art seeks applications for
a tenure-track position in Costume Design at the rank of Assistant
Professor commencing July 1, 2007. This position is subject to final
budgetary approval.
The School of Dramatic Art at the University of Windsor is one of the
oldest and best established theatre and drama programs in the country. Our
graduates have made a mark on both the world stage and in film, as well as
in education. Currently Dramatic Art offers honours degree programs in
Acting, Drama in Education and Community, and Dramatic Art, and a wide
ranging subscription season of plays through University Players that serve
the community. For further information about the School of Dramatic Art,
visit our web site at http://www.uwindsor.ca/drama.
The School of Dramatic Art operates in a state-of-the-art facility, which
opened in July 2003 and contains spacious studios for Acting, Voice,
Movement, and Drama in Education and Community, and a flexible-seat Studio
Theatre. All studios are equipped for video-conferencing, sound and have
computer connections for presentation delivery. University Players, the
acting company of the School of Dramatic Art, also operates a 322 seat main
stage in Essex Hall.
The City of Windsor has a vital and expanding cultural community and we are
within easy driving distance to Stratford, Toronto, Detroit, and Chicago.
Boundless opportunities exist to explore and expand creative potential
within both the University setting and the community.
Responsibilities will include the teaching of courses in costume design,
and areas related to individual expertise, as well as program development.
The successful candidate will design costumes and accessories for
main-stage productions, and/or supervise senior student design projects for
the main-stage. The ability to render traditional costume plates, plus a
thorough knowledge of fabric manipulation, millinery, apparel, and hair and
make-up design are required. A working knowledge of a computer-aided
costume program is necessary. Budget and management skills are essential.
The candidate must have at least an MFA in Costume Design by date of
appointment and teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
Professional experience is also desired. Please do not send a portfolio
with the initial application. Should an applicant be short-listed, examples
of the design process including, but not limited to, renderings with
swatches, costume plots and production photos, will be required.
Applications will include:
a letter of application, including a statement of
citizenship/immigration status;
a current curriculum vitae;
statements of teaching and creative activity interests;
a teaching dossier or evidence of teaching effectiveness that might
include sample course outlines or teaching evaluations;
a statement of teaching philosophy and creative activity interests;
samples of scholarly work;
