Simon Fraser University – The School for the Contemporary Arts at
Simon Fraser University invites applications for a tenure track
position in theatre at the Assistant Professor level, beginning
September 1, 2007. An MFA or equivalent is required, along with
experience as a teacher of theatre at the university level. The
successful applicant will have a strong record as a theatre director,
particularly of contemporary and experimental work. Artistic work
should clearly reflect contemporary issues in art and performance. A
background of interdisciplinary art production would be advantageous.
The BFA in Theatre (Performance) is a studio-based program that
includes acting, movement, voice, speech, directing, clown and mask,
and playmaking. The successful applicant will direct theatre
productions and share teaching responsibilities for the BFA,
including directing, acting at fundamental or advanced levels,
playmaking, dramatic literature and theatre history.
The School for the Contemporary Arts is an interdisciplinary fine and
performing arts program which includes disciplinary training in: Art
and Culture Studies, Dance, Film, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts.
The School offers a BFA in Theatre (Performance or Production/
Design), an Extended Minor in Theatre, and an Interdisciplinary MFA
program. Faculty at the School are required to maintain a
professional art practice or scholarly activity. Advising, committee
responsibilities, and supervision of graduate students are expected.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: November 3, 2006. The availability of this
position is subject to budgetary approval. All qualified candidates
