FORWARDED MESSAGE:
Dear friends and colleagues,
in collaboration with Canadian Heritage, the Embassy initiated in 2006 a
pilot project for Canadian plays. Aim was and still is to introduce, to
promote and to export new Canadian drama in Germany.
As you know, a jury of German theatre experts was installed. Jury 2006:
Frank Heibert, translator and president of jury, Stephanie Graeve, Chief
of Dramaturgy/ Theater der Bundesstadt Bonn, Bastian Häffner, Pegasus
Berlin/agent .Andrea Zagorski, dramaturge/ International Theater
Institute, German Section and Gabriele Naumann-Maerten, Cultural
Attaché-Performing Arts.
Canadian partners, such as playwrights Guild Toronto provided plays, 78
in total. Plays were pre-selected, read and evaluated by the jury
members, according it's potential for the multi-facetted German theatre
market.
In 2006 six plays were chosen. Outreach to 430 [professional contacts
across Germany showed very promising results.
This initiative has build awareness and interest by German theatre
professionals, such as dramaturges, artistic directors, directors,
translators, agents.
The collaboration between Canadian and German theatre professionals is
essential to the success of this project. Therefore it is not only to
build access to information on new Canadian plays in German speaking
countries, but also to create substantial networks and future
collaborations.
The complexity of the German theatre system demands new ways to access
the market to decision makers.
We would very much appreciate your support and substantial contribution
to this process. Your expertise in Canadian theatre and it's
decentralized landscape is very valuable to us. Your expertise in
interesting new, upcoming plays, styles and playwrights would certainly
be a substantial contribution to the promotion of Canadian plays.
Therefore we would very much like to invite you to participate in this
important process, which is preparatory for jury on new Canadian drama 2007.
We hope this projects meets your interest.
