Heritage Vancouver welcomes Heather Redfern and Charles Barber to our January
meeting at the Vancouver Museum. Heather Redfern, Executive Director of the
Vancouver East Cultural Centre is responsible for managing the York Theatre and
Charles Barber, Conductor and Artistic Director, City Opera Vancouver has worked
tirelessly to have the Pantages Theatre become home to neighbourhood, community
and professional art, theatre and music in the DTES, and across Vancouver.
On December 18th, 2008, Vancouver City Council voted unanimously to support a
plan to restore and reopen the historic York Theatre. What a triumph for a
community that has worked tirelessly over the years to preserve Vancouver's
three historic theatres The Vogue The Pantages The York. The decision has
given new impetus to the community's determination to see the Pantages and the
Vogue restored.
The evening is an opportunity to participate with Heather and Charles in a
conversation focused on what it will take to have the Vogue and the Pantages
join the York in becoming part of Vancouver's cultural landscape for years to
come.
