CALL FOR PAPERS

The 29th Annual William Inge Theatre Festival and Conference, April 21-24, 2010

The William Inge Theatre Festival and Conference is in its third decade of honoring major living playwrights through a wide range of performances, readings, seminars, workshops, lectures, panel discussions and historical activities. For four days each year, the small city of Independence, Kansas, becomes the theatrical center of the universe with visits from the greatest playwrights, directors, actors and other theatre practitioners, who all meet to honor a major playwright in a playwright’s town. Additional awards to a “New Voices” Playwright and a Kansas Citizen of the Arts are also presented. Next year’s festival will be held April 21-24, 2010.

We are pleased to announce that for the 29th Annual Festival we are honoring the work of the great American playwright, Paula Vogel, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for drama and many other awards. In addition to her work as a playwright, Ms. Vogel has taught and inspired many of the finest young playwrights in America.

Past recipients are: Jerome Lawrence, William Gibson, Robert Anderson, John Patrick, Garson Kanin, Sidney Kingsley, Robert E. Lee, Horton Foote, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Edward Albee, Peter Shaffer, Wendy Wasserstein, Terrence McNally, Arthur Miller, August Wilson, Neil Simon, Stephen Sondheim, John Guare, A.R. Gurney, Lanford Wilson, John Kander and Fred Ebb, Romulus Linney, Arthur Laurents, Tina Howe, Sheldon Harnick, Christopher Durang, Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt.
