Senior Instructor in Performance
The Department of Theatre at the University of Victoria invites applications for a Theatre Generalist in Performance, to be offered at the rank of Senior Instructor. The appointment will be effective July 1st 2010.
Candidates will be able to offer courses in acting, voice and/or directing at first and second year levels; and, in addition, possess the necessary expertise to teach upper-level undergraduate courses in acting, if required. There will be opportunities for the successful candidate to direct in the Theatre Department’s mainstage season. A graduate degree in theatre, a diploma from an internationally-recognised theatre training institution, and/or professional equivalency are required. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level is highly desirable.
Located within the magnificently-equipped Faculty of Fine Arts – consisting of departments of History in Art, Music, Visual Arts and Writing – the Department of Theatre offers undergraduate students either an Honours Program in Theatre History or a Theatre Major Program with specialist or generalist options. The specialist options are: acting, applied theatre, design, directing, production and management, theatre history and theatre/writing. MFA programs are also offered in design, directing and production; and, MA and PhD programs are offered in applied theatre and theatre history. The purpose-built Phoenix Theatre is one of the finest teaching and performance facilities in the country, featuring three state-of-the-art theatres, studios, classrooms and workshops, and is staffed by an outstanding team of dedicated and distinguished professors and production personnel.
