I will be presenting WRITING IN THE SAND, my solo show adapted from gay Canadian playwright John Herbert's unpublished memoirs, Sunday, une 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Buddies in Bad Times in Toronto as a benefit for the Canadian Gay and Lesbian Archives and Buddies
Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with a cash bar available to patrons. The performance will start at 8 p.m. and be followed by a brief Q&A conducted by Buddies Artistic Director Brendan Healey. Tickets are $40 and may be purchased at the door. We are also working to make advance tickets available through the Buddies box office at www.buddiesinbadtimes.com.
Shortly before his death, John Herbert read the opening chapters of his memoirs at a benefit for Buddies, the world's leading queer theatre company. This performance is inspired by that reading and includes selections from his memoirs that deal with growing up gay in Toronto and the prison sentence that inspired Herbert's most famous play, FORTUNE AND MEN'S EYES.
