Laura Nicholas and I are seeking at least one additional panelist to join
us in addressing a topics that explore the relationship between memory and
legacy and memory manipulating legend. Our working title is “Remembering
Origins: Trapped in Dramatic Historization.”
Laura is working on a paper on the reinforcement or diminishment of
nationalism using Pierre Nora's cite of memory theory about history
established through memory. She is looking at three different productions
of Trojan Women performed in three different countries to study how those
productions influence the national identity of participants in those
countries.
I am formulating my ideas around my upcoming production of I Married Wyatt
Earp. In this play non-fiction material is dramatized through the
entwining and twisting of memory, history, legend, and imagination to tell
the stories of the women of the era. I will look at how this impacts
research and directing approach.
If you have a topic in mind or paper in progress that you feel would fit
with our panel proposal, please contact Laura Nicholas
Laura_Nicholas at baylor.edu or Sue Klemp susan.klemp at sdstate.edu.
Apologies for cross-postings. We are trying to reach people from several
focus groups who might be interested in our topic.
Best wishes,
Sue Klemp
