One Year Lease Theater Company (OYL)’s Apprentice Program in northern
Greece is a four-week long immersive experience, designed to inspire the
individual theater artist.  The program, now entering its ninth year, takes
place from July 16th to August 16th and culminates in performances in four
villages in the region.


Applications are accepted online between Dec 1, 2014 and March 1, 2015.

The program investigates the possibilities of the theatrical experience,
explores various techniques, and strengthens the artist’s understanding of
ensemble-driven theater. OYL’s Apprentice Program is designed for
college-level actors and theater artists and occurs each summer in Northern
Greece, in the remote mountain village of Papingo. The month-long program
is lead by the OYL artistic ensemble, two college professors and additional
professional theater practitioners.

Apprentices create devised works, take acting masterclasses, train with
OYL’s acting ensemble, participate in daily yoga sessions, sit in on OYL
workshops and rehearsals, and learn basic Greek. Concurrently, the
Apprentice Company builds and rehearses an outdoor production that tours to
four villages during the last week of the program.

To date 65 students have participated from Arizona State, CalArts,
Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Columbia, Connecticut College, Harvard,
Ithaca, Muhlenberg,  Northwestern, NYU, Oberlin, Princeton, Reed, Rice,
Southern Methodist University, University of Michigan, USC and Vassar.

OYL is a professional theater company based in NYC.  The company is in
residency
alongside the Apprentice Program, developing new work and
training, which affords participants the invaluable opportunity to witness
and learn about the inner workings of our company.
