Candrama listerv winding down

Dear Candrama listerv subscribers,

By September 1, 2016 this Candrama email listerv will be phased out.

The pressing catalyst for this change is that the host, UNB IT, is no longer supporting listervs—so it’s got to go. In response, CATR has created two, more robust, fora for the digital age:

1. The CATR/ACRT Website (http://catracrt.ca<http://catracrt.ca/>). There you’ll find plenty of information about Canadian drama, theatre, and performance studies. And when you join CATR/ACRT as a paying MEMBER, you will be able to LOG IN to engage with other members in backstage discussion Groups that you create. In the coming weeks (i.e. before Sept. 1) these backstage discussion Groups will be available for paid-up CATR/ACRT members to access and create (so stay tuned!).

2. The Canadian Theatre Research and Performance Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/CanadianTheatreResearch. Follow it from anywhere in the world! Any and all of the types of questions and issues that have been raised on this listerv over the past quarter century (!) can be raised on the Facebook Group. — So instead of posting to this email, start posting to the Facebook Group!

Thus, all you have to do is make sure you’re a paid-up member of CATR/ACRT (for the backstage Group discussions) AND follow the Facebook Group (for free)!

At this juncture, we should acknowledge the fundamental importance this listerv has had to “our” communications over the years. Created by UNB’s Ed Mullaly (hi Ed!) on April 30, 1993—shortly after Al Gore invented the internet—with email invitations to Denis Salter and ‘Jill,’ the Candrama listerv has grown to more than 400 members, scholars, scholar-practioners, artists, and friends of Canadian theatre. In Ed’s words from his very first Candrama missive: “The discussion group is really, when the romance is removed from the notion, a glorified electronic carbon paper which allows you to send the same message to a lot of people at once.” Enter: Web fora … and Facebook.
