The School of Media and Performing Arts at the University of Portsmouth
is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Theatre Production to join
our team at an exciting stage in our development.
We are seeking an experienced practitioner / academic with practical
expertise and knowledge in areas of theatre production, design and
making, directing and/or devising. An established practitioner /
academic, with significant experience of practice and industry, the
successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the delivery of
core teaching across the undergraduate programmes along with appropriate
departmental activities such as recruitment, curriculum development and
course management and leadership. They will take a leading role in
developing specialist aspects of theatre production, and will be able to
make a creative contribution to our interests in new technologies and
contemporary theatre practices.
With two closely related undergraduate programmes in Drama and
Performance, and Musical Theatre, we are consolidating our growing
reputation in the performing arts and looking to build on its success.
Our Drama and Performance course has a particular focus on 20^th /21^st
century theatre practices and internationally recognised expertise in
applied theatre. With significant specialist research expertise within
the team, working toward REF2021 is a priority, and we are looking to
develop postgraduate taught provision and research. Located in
purpose-built premises adjoining the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth, our
developing partnership with the theatre as well as other UK and
International partners is a significant priority and opportunity for our
ambitions.
The School of Media and Performing Arts is one of four schools in the
Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries at the University of
Portsmouth, and offers taught undergraduate, postgraduate and
postgraduate research programmes in Creative Writing, Film and Media
Studies and Industries, alongside the Performing Arts. In joining our
small team of established scholars and practitioners, it is anticipated
that the post holder will be excited to exploit and explore the
opportunities of working within a multidisciplinary creative
environment, which includes a range of specialist technologies such as
motion capture and virtual reality and will be keen to use this to
enhance and augment teaching, research and practice in the school and
beyond.
In joining the University of Portsmouth, you will be joining one of only
four Universities in the south east of England to be rated Gold in the
national Teaching Excellence Framework (2017). The University is home to
23,000 students, including 4,000 international and EU students from 130
countries, along with 2,500 full-time staff. As an institution,

2018/), and the BA (Hons) Drama and Performance programme is ascending

The School of Media and Performing Arts at the University of Portsmouth,
is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Musical Theatre to join our
team at an exciting stage in our development.
We are seeking an experienced practitioner / academic with a broad range
of practical expertise and knowledge in areas of musical theatre in
global contexts, new musical theatre writing, and ‘acting the song’. An
established scholar and practitioner, with international connections to
industry and the academy, the successful applicant will contribute to
the delivery of our core teaching across the undergraduate programmes,
along with relevant departmental activities such as recruitment and
course development. The successful applicant will also play a key role
in establishing and consolidating the expansion of our current portfolio
and future development.
Our undergraduate course in Musical Theatre is among the most
established in the UK, and the School is home to the
internationally-leading journal /Studies in Musical
Theatre/ (Intellect). The successful applicant will join a small but
internationally-recognised team of musical theatre scholars and
practitioners, whose research-informed teaching draws on expertise in
historiography and archival research, new musical theatre, and musical
theatre in a global/international context. With significant specialist
