University of Ottawa – The Department of Theatre invites applications from francophone theatre artists and artist-researchers for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to commence July 1, 2020.

Located on the ancestral land of the Algonquin people, the University of Ottawa is in the heart of the National Capital, home to a wealth of artistic institutions. The Department’s facilities include the state of the art LabO black-box Theatre, the Academic Hall Theatre and the Leonard Beaulne Studio Theatre, as well as workshops for costume and set construction and six rehearsal studios shared between two buildings.

The Department of Theatre is a collegial, bilingual environment that supports contemporary artistic creation as well as innovative academic research, in order to provide students with a high quality learning experience.

At the undergraduate level, the Department of Theatre offers a BFA in Acting, a professional degree preparing students for work in contemporary theatre. The Department’s BA program in Theatre Studies prepares students for advanced academic work as well as theatre in education, theatre production and arts administration in Specialist, Major or Minor concentrations.

The Department of Theatre offers two graduate level programs. The professional MFA in contemporary Theatre Directing is a 2-year, full time training program. The MA in Theatre Theory and Dramaturgy offers students three options of study – a research oriented 2-year thesis, a 2-year thesis-with-creative-project and a 1-year MA with a Major Research Paper.

Qualifications: the candidate selected will have significant expertise in the teaching of contemporary acting at the university, college or conservatory level. They will hold a Ph.D. or an equivalent or appropriate terminal degree in their field of specialization. They will have a significant practice of research/creation or artistic research in the field of live performance including, but not restricted to, directing and devising, new technologies in the theatre, dramaturgy or design. Experience in the teaching of dramaturgy, diction, movement, dance and so on is also an asset. The initial teaching load will be in French.

Tasks: The successful candidate will teach in both the undergraduate BA and BFA programs. Teaching in the BFA will include intensive pedagogical projects (over 140 hours of instruction time per term) that culminate in a performance presentation. The successful candidate will teach practical seminars in directing as well as supervise directing and devising projects in the MFA. They may also be asked to co-supervise thesis-with-creative-projects undertaken by MA students. The successful candidate must contribute substantially to the artistic life of the Ottawa-Gatineau region and participate fully in the administration of the Department of Theatre and the Faculty of Arts.

Salary and benefits are determined in accordance with the APUO Collective Agreement. The University of Ottawa provides a complete benefits package which include long-term disability, basic group life insurance, supplementary health insurance, University of Ottawa Pension Plan and optional life insurance, as well as relocation expenses.

Théâtre – Poste de professeur régulier* en jeu contemporain au rang d’adjoint

Université d’Ottawa – Le Département de théâtre de l’Université d’Ottawa invite les artistes et chercheurs-créateurs francophones ou francophiles à poser leur candidature pour un poste de professeur régulier en jeu contemporain menant à la permanence au rang d’adjoint, débutant le 1er juillet 2020.

Situé sur le territoire ancestral du peuple algonquin, au cœur du quartier des spectacles de la Capitale nationale et entouré d’institutions muséales d’envergure, le Département de théâtre dispose de deux pavillons comprenant des ateliers (décors et costumes), six (6) studios de répétition ainsi que trois (3) salles de spectacles, dont la bientôt centenaire Salle Académique et le tout récent LabO.

Le Département de théâtre offre un milieu de travail bilingue et collégial qui soutient la recherche académique comme la création artistique et qui place la qualité de l’enseignement au cœur de ses préoccupations.

Au premier cycle, le Département de théâtre offre un programme intensif de formation professionnelle de l’acteur (B.P.T.), ainsi que des programmes offrant une formation complète dans les domaines des études théâtrales, de l’enseignement du théâtre, de la production théâtrale et de l’administration des arts (Baccalauréat, Majeure, Mineure).

Au deuxième cycle, le Département offre une Maîtrise pratique en mise en scène (M.P.T.), ainsi qu’une maîtrise théorique (MA) comprenant trois volets : avec thèse (2 ans), avec projet de recherche-création (2 ans) et avec mémoire (1 an).

Qualifications requises : Le candidat recherché possèdera une expérience significative dans l’enseignement du jeu théâtral contemporain au niveau universitaire ou collégial, ou dans un contexte de conservatoire. Il possèdera un doctorat ou un diplômé terminal équivalent selon son champ de spécialisation. Il démontrera une pratique artistique conséquente de recherche-création dans le domaine des arts de la scène (mise en scène / écriture scénique; nouvelles technologies au théâtre; dramaturgie de plateau; conception; etc.). Le comité de sélection considérera favorablement toute expertise complémentaire qui viendrait bonifier la contribution du candidat au projet pédagogique du Département de théâtre (dramaturgie, diction, mouvement, danse, etc.). La tâche d’enseignement est le français.

Tâches : Au premier cycle, le candidat retenu sera invité à enseigner au BA ainsi qu’au B.P.T., parfois dans le cadre de projets pédagogiques de longue haleine (plus de 140 heures de studio / session) se terminant par un projet d’intégration. Au deuxième cycle, le candidat retenu sera appelé à offrir des séminaires pratiques en mise en scène ainsi qu’à (co)-superviser des projets de création (M.P.T.) ou des projets de recherche-création (MA). Le candidat sera enfin appelé à participer pleinement à la vie du Département et de la Faculté (réunions, comités, services divers), de même qu’à contribuer de manière significative à l’activité artistique d’Ottawa-Gatineau.
