Hello Canadian theatre academics,
I’m writing from Playwrights Canada Press with a list of resources for accessing our books for the coming term and some news. We’ve been getting questions from many of you so thought we’d send the answers out to everyone.
Our office in Toronto is closed but we’re working from home on getting new books out. Since our printers are closed, for the time being we’re releasing titles as ebook-first and will follow up with print editions when we’re able in the coming months.
1. Electronic books
Hundreds of our plays are available as ebooks. You can find them on our website in both pdf and epub formats. If your school bookstore can’t order physical books for students, this is a good alternative.
Many ebook titles are also included in the Drama Online subscription platform. A subscription can be purchased by the library to make it available to your whole institution. In addition to a Playwrights Canada Press collection there are print and video collections from a number of international drama publishers. https://www.dramaonlinelibrary.com/
Our ebooks are also now available via VitalSource, which provides rental options for textbooks. https://www.vitalsource.com/en-ca/
2. Print book bundles
If you teach a course that uses three or more of our books, you can create a discounted book bundle for your students. Three or four books will garner 20% off, five or more will be 30% off.
Bundles are for print editions only and are only available to Canadian schools.
These discounted rates are specifically for students who will buy the bundle of books on our website and have them shipped to their home. At this time, we unfortunately cannot guarantee order processing or shipping times but wanted to remind you of this option in case it works for your class.
We require your bundle request to come in about a month before your course begins. Please fill out this form (https://playwrightscanada.wufoo.com/forms/course-bundle-request-form/) to start the process, or contact Jessica Lewis (jessica at playwrightscanada.com) with any questions.
3. Licensing for printed or digital coursepacks
If you would like to licence published material for use in a coursepack, permission is available through Access Copyright in Canada and the Copyright Clearance Center in the US. We strongly encourage schools and universities to take advantage of the services offered by those organizations.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for through Access Copyright or the Copyright Clearance Centre please fill out this permission form (https://playwrightscanada.wufoo.com/forms/permission-request/) to put in a request with us.
We are lifting some of our normal restrictions to allow the use of ebooks on course software. If you’d like to do so please fill out the form above or contact Annie Gibson (annie at playwrightscanada.com) for more information.
