The Theatre Production Coordinator’s primary role is to support student learning and growth that occurs through theatre production and performance activities. They are responsible for all aspects of production management for the Theatre program, including budget, scheduling, and overseeing workflow for performances and events. They train and mentor students working on productions and support technical theatre and design instruction. The Production Coordinator also contributes to the School of Creative Arts, providing project management and event coordination support and participating in School committees and activities. The Production Coordinator works under the direction of the Director of the School of Creative Arts and in collaboration with School faculty and staff. They provide leadership in the theatre area and supervise theatre production staff.
The successful candidate develops production schedules in consultation with faculty and the School Director. They follow a project management process that includes establishing deadlines, delegating tasks to staff and student, and monitoring production work to ensure critical production deadlines are met on budget. They will coordinate marketing and publicity deadlines, allocate budget for production areas, track spending and revenues, create agendas and chair production meetings and staff meetings, and coordinate work schedules in relation to production deadlines. The successful candidate will be a “communication hub” between directors, faculty, staff, students, and the School Director. The position oversees theatre spaces, booking rehearsal spaces for students and providing support to instructors teaching in studio spaces, and coordinating space use and maintenance with other areas of the university.
The Production Coordinator recruits, mentors, and supervises practicum and work study students, coordinating their work and providing feedback on their performance. They demonstrate a student-centered, growth mindset and understand the Production Coordinator role as one that supports student learning and development. They are responsive to student and program needs, flexible and positive when circumstances change, and understand the theatre area as primarily a teaching environment. The successful candidate will follow all institutional and School policies around safety, ensure that teaching, rehearsal, and workspaces are safe, and will be committed to creating a respectful workplace and promoting student wellness.
UFV Theatre emphasizes student-centered and process-based learning, the integration of practice and theory, community engagement, and interdisciplinarity. We foster exploration and experimentation in our production practices and a typical season of theatre might include student-directed works, devised productions, community-based or applied theatre projects, and digital performance, as well as more traditionally organized productions. Theatre is part of the School of Creative Arts, which includes Media Arts, Film, Visual Arts, and Art History, and we actively encourage participation from students from all areas of the School in theatre activities.
The School of Creative Arts strives to promote Indigenous resurgence alongside decolonization and practices of anti-racism; successful candidates will demonstrate that they share this commitment and that they are committed to accessibility and inclusivity. A documented record of professional practices that promote anti-racism, intersectionality, and equity is an asset.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre or a related field and will have at least three (3) years’ professional theatre experience, preferably in stage management or production management. They will also have experience mentoring students, apprentices, and/or emerging artists. Thorough knowledge of all aspects of theatre production, including theatre facilities and equipment, stage management, design, construction, budgeting, theatre administration, professional workplace and safety standards (including labour agreements and standards e.g. CTA, ITA, Equity) is required. They will have significant experience managing projects with tight timelines and budgets, including multiple simultaneous projects and live performance events in non-traditional venues and will have the ability to use project management and team communication software to coordinate projects. The successful candidate will have experience with a range of performance creation processes and will be able to adapt their work practices to meet the theatre program’s needs.
The Theatre area and the School of Creative Arts highly value compassion, wellness, flexibility, and collegiality. The successful candidate must have outstanding interpersonal communication and leadership skills. We understand these to include the following: solving problems in a creative and collaborative manner; resolving interpersonal conflicts; working with cultural and social sensitivity in a diverse and intersectional environment; promoting excellent working relationships between members of the School, between the School and other units at UFV, and between the School and external stakeholders.

* Letter of application
* Current C/V or resume, including three references
