Thanks for sharing, Robin, and for marking this important moment. It was such a pleasure to meet and connect with Taiwo Afolabi at the Royal Society of Canada’s meeting this week in Waterloo.

Allow me to contribute additional congratulations by mentioning that two other theatre scholars, Nicole Nolette and Naila Keleta-Mae, both co-editors of CATR’s Theatre Research in Canada/Recherches théâtrales au Canada, and both at Western University, were also elected to the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists of the RSC.

Additionally, Nicole and Naila were part of an essential conversation, on Saturday morning, pertaining to the languages of research and finding proactive, productive ways to break down linguistic and cultural silos in Canadian research.

It is great to see so many theatre and performance scholars recognized this year by the College! Toutes mes felicitations à Taiwo, Nicole et Naila!

All the best,
Patrick

Dear CATR Members,

I am writing with enthusiasm to congratulate Dr. Taiwo Afolabi on his election to the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists. As many you of know, Taiwo is CATR’s Vice President as well as the Canada Research Chair in Socially Engaged Theatre at the University of Regina. For CATR, Taiwo’s insightful and energetic work on the Board, the TheatreAgora joint committee (with SQET), the Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression Committee, and the Task Force on Precarity, and well as Co-Chair of CATR 2024, has been essential as CATR continues to reimagine its potential. I’m sure you’ll join me in congratulating Taiwo on this important recognition.

Dr Robin C. Whittaker
