symposium:

America as it is currently imaged conjures a multitude of questions, 
about hegemonies of gender and sexuality, racism, multi-representation 
(inclusivity) and repair. We are looking for those whose practice and 
scholarship around these issues, and around America itself -as a 
construct and reality- intersect with their work on Stanislavsky/MKHAT 
in unique and exciting ways. We are defining ‘American’ as ‘in the 
context of’: those who identify as American, or those global 
practitioners engaging with the work of American adaptations or 
translations of the work of Stanislavsky and MKHAT.


Teachers/researchers of acting and performance are invited to explore, 
identify, investigate, articulate, document, and present American 
practices/practitioners that facilitate/create/invite 
multi-representative (‘inclusive’) practices and perspectives.


Provocations include:


·How are American anti-racist theatre practitioners 
using/adapting/developing Stanislavsky and the Moscow Art Collective’s work?

·How are American disabled theatre companies and actors/actor trainers 
of determination using/adapting/developing Stanislavsky and MKHAT’s work?

·How are American practitioners queering Stanislavsky and MKHAT’s work, 
or using/adapting/developing these works in queer training spaces?

·How are American practitioners working in gender equity/equality 
theatre spaces using/adapting/developing Stanislavsky and MKHAT’s work?


The symposium will consist of papers, practical workshops, panel 
presentations, and discussions. We now invite proposals for the following:


§Papers (20 minutes)

§Provocations (10 minutes)

§Performative lectures (20 minutes)

§Workshops/practical demonstrations (30 minutes)


We are also open to other propositions for creative transmission; 
including webinar or archival retrospectives.


Please email proposals of 300 words or less along with a brief biography 
to Dr Dana Blackstone by the 25th of January, 2024. Successful proposals 
will be confirmed by the 25th of February 2024. Selected material from 
this event will be eligible for inclusion in a new edited collection 
which will be published by Routledge as part of the /Stanislavsky And... 
/book series.(Routledge, Taylor and Francis)

Online booking/registration for this event will be available in March 
2024. Delegates are encouraged to also attend the /S Word: Stanislavsky 
& Actor Training for the Screen/ that will take place the day before, on 
May 31, 2024, at School of Arts and Creative Industries; University of 
East London. A special registration rate will be offered for anyone who 
wants to attend both events.
