I, too, am saddened to learn of Louise's passing. As so many have said, she was very supportive, especially when I was first starting out; she encouraged my work on gender when most people discouraged it. And, yes, she was a firecracker, alright! She often called me out (or called me in) for excluding Quebec and French-speaking Canada in my work.

I just emailed her last week and wondered why I didn't get a response...

My condolences to her family and all of her friends. She will be missed!

In Memoriam
Louise Forsyth

Louise was a wonderful, generous, knowledgeable, kind colleague and mentor. She seemed to make everyone feel considered and heard.

She was also very supportive and knowledgeable of Québec and French-Canadian theatre and their study in the context of Canadian theatre studies. She also was passionate about women in theatre and cared deeply about reconciliation.

Thinking of you, Louise! Cheers!

Thank you for letting us know Moira. This is indeed sad news. Louise was such a huge inspiration to me, as I know she was to many others. Her intelligence, determination and profound kindness left the world a better place.

I am saddened by this news. Louise was very supportive of my early work and we became friends; she was supportive of, and a friend to, so many in the academy. She will be missed.

Dear colleagues,

I am writing this morning with sad news. Yesterday, I was informed by her family that long-time CATR member, Louise Forsyth, had passed away quietly in Calgary on May 16th, 2024. Her health began to fail after 2022, and while our last visit in February, 2024 went well, she was clearly very fragile even then.

Louise was a force in our field as a prolific scholar, brilliant administrator, and gifted mentor and teacher, especially in the area of Québec theatre and Women's Studies. She will be very much missed.

Best,
Moira
