Are you circus studies-curious?
Invitation to an informational session about the field
Contemporary circus studies is a burgeoning, interdisciplinary field bringing together scholars and artists from across the globe and from fields including theatre and performance studies, area studies, anthropology, sociology, history, queer and gender studies, kinesiology, cultural studies, and more. Circus performances, labour and mobility practices, education and training, and colonial / post-colonial histories are among the myriad topics of focus in the field.
If you are curious about the field, see potential synergies with your own work, and want to know more, please join us at an informational session on Friday, February 27 from 9-10 am EST.
The session is organised by the Circus and its Others (CaiO) research network<https://www.circusanditsothers.org>, an international, cross-disciplinary research project that explores the ways in which contemporary circus artists and companies relate to concepts of difference in their practice. The session will include information about the network’s upcoming conference in Kerala, India in January-February 2027, for which proposals are due on March 15, 2026. <https://www.circusanditsothers.org/call-for-participation> Please contact circusanditsothers at gmail.com<mailto:circusanditsothers at gmail.com> if you are unable to attend but would like to view a recording, and with any other questions.
