Dear members of the DNC for SSPHR! (so many words!)

THANK YOU for your willingness to engage in this important work toward identifying the inaugural Director for the School of Social, Political, and Historical Research.

Jasleen will soon be scheduling meetings for the committee - here's some information to get us started:


  *   Alexie is hoping to gather this group for an initial meeting ASAP, possibly even this Friday.  We realize this is short notice, but appreciate what you can do to accommodate within your schedule.  We will plan for 90 minutes on TEAMS, in order to maximize possibility of participation.  While we hope to find a time that accommodates everyone, we will plan to record the meeting for the benefit of anyone who cannot attend.


  *   For now, I will ask Jasleen to schedule weekly meetings of 90 minutes following our first meeting.  What the committee decides on for its work process at the first meeting will inform when our second meeting should be, and how often we should meet beyond that.  But we're going to get some placeholders in your schedules on a weekly basis - easier to cancel those later if we're not ready to meet.


  *   Alexie will be travelling outside of our timezone for three weeks in February - two of those weeks in India and China.  Timing of those meetings will likely need to be late in our afternoon (4 or 5 pm?) in order to accommodate Alexie's schedule.  We realize this is not ideal, and appreciate whatever flexibility you can offer.

Next steps:

  *   Await email from Jasleen to schedule next week's meeting
  *   Review Policy 40 - The School Director<https://uwaterloo.ca/secretariat/policies-procedures-guidelines/policy-40>. Please focus your time on Section 1 - Qualifications, Duties, and Responsibilities, and Section 3B - Terms of Reference - New Appointments. It will be important that we are familiar with these sections of Policy 40 in advance of our first meeting.
