[Hopespringpcsg] PSG MEETING @ HOPESPRING 25 JAN 12

Hi all:

The next PSG  meeting will be held at it's current location (Hopespring - 43
Allen St. W.) on Wednesday January 25, 2012--usual start time of 7pm. Due to
construction / renovation Hopespring's move in date to its new facility has
been postponed -  not exactly sure what will be the date of the move.

 

As part of the PCCN Waterloo-Wellington Prostate Support Group's effort to
reach more men diagnosed with PCa (and their family supporters) our members
and Hopespring staff have been making contact with healthcare providers in
the region. Thus, at the beginning of the session Erin McKenzie (Prostate
Nurse Navigator) from GRH will be presenting  a survey (best explained in
the last sentence of Erin's blurb (see below). Along  with Erin,  her
colleagues Dr. Craig McFadyen and  Sara Kaune will be attending.

 

The Prostate Nurse Navigator is a specialized nurse that will be providing
support to men after they have a diagnosis of prostate cancer and help guide
them through treatment decision making. I will have an office space at St.
Mary's hospital where I will meet with men in person and will also be
providing telephone support. It is anticipated that this role will result in
less stress, better informed treatment decisions, higher patient
satisfaction treatment decisions and overall improved outcomes.  Rather than
assuming we as healthcare providers know what is needed for men who are
newly diagnosed with Prostate cancer, we would like to administer a short
survey to a group of men who are currently on treatment or completed
treatment within the last 6 months to assess where they felt there were gaps
and then address and decrease them.

 

Hopefully, this will be the start of a mutually beneficial growing
relationship between the PCCN PSG members, healthcare providers, and
Hopespring staff who assist us.

As this may prove to  be a turning point in PCa awareness, education, and
support in the area, your attendance would be appreciated.
