Unique Prostate Cancer Partnership Develops Programs for Survivors

  <http://gallery.mailchimp.com/381dca877e43c44046caa6dd1/images/392_ASAP_image.jpg> Fresh from the inaugural working meeting of  <http://prostatecancer.us2.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=381dca877e43c44046caa6dd1&id=8a52fd872a&e=103e67d6c8> ASAP (A Survivorship Action Partnership), a Movember-funded program, the network participants are inspired and ready to develop programs that will support prostate cancer survivors. The group, the first of its kind on the Canadian cancer landscape, consists of health care representatives who interact regularly with prostate cancer survivors and their friends, families and caregivers.

The network focuses on providing the right support, at the right time, in the right place, by the right individual. It's about what happens after a patient hears those words: You have prostate cancer - and offering support and education programs that will help everyone touched by the diagnosis and the decisions, actions and outcomes that follow.

Delegates representing 19 clinical, community and academic institutions from across the country participated in the workshop. Survivors and non-medical members of the public also fully participated, providing insight and advice into the programs offered.

Health Care Social Media

  <http://gallery.mailchimp.com/381dca877e43c44046caa6dd1/images/prostatecare.jpg> Health care social media – using channels such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and more – is gaining incredible popularity and traction. Consider the March 2013 eau (European Association of Urology) conference in Milan that generated 1,140,478 impressions, 1739 tweets, and 235 users, and you can see why urologists are leading the way in healthcare social media.

Dr. Rajiv Singal, head of endo-urology at Toronto East General, hosted a  <http://prostatecancer.us2.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=381dca877e43c44046caa6dd1&id=ad14e6809a&e=103e67d6c8> Twitter chat on March 21, answering questions and providing slides. At one point, the busy doc had to dash off to read an X-ray, leaving the chat to continue organically, and was back in an instant to share more insight. The spirited information sharing resulted in  <http://prostatecancer.us2.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=381dca877e43c44046caa6dd1&id=5577ce065e&e=103e67d6c8> #prostatecare trending on Twitter that night.
