[Hopespringpcsg] FW: Canadians say Yes To PSA

Hi all:

See the note below from Rocco Rossi about PSA testing.

We need to continue to stand up and speak out against the dumb recommendation to stop PSA testing recently put forward by the CTFPHC.

Bring it up with friends, relatives, doctors, and MPPs.

Remember, we have to be our own advocates wrt PCa.

Take care,

Glen

Chair PCCN W-W

Dear Friend,

The support we have received for our <http://prostatecancer.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=381dca877e43c44046caa6dd1&id=688b9f7bec&e=b7e2b89435> #YesToPSA campaign has been tremendous, and we are so incredibly thankful to all of those who have responded. Whether through donations, by speaking to MPPs or MLAs, or simply by sharing your story with us, or with friends and loved ones, many of you have made a huge difference and the impact was felt across the country. The recommendations made by the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care represent a great injustice to men and their families, and we need to ensure they are ignored.

With your support, we are making progress. I wanted to share with you some of the latest developments that took place this past month:

#YesToPSA: being heard across Canada

You and I understand the critical importance of the PSA test, but getting the message out to others is critical.

In an <http://prostatecancer.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=381dca877e43c44046caa6dd1&id=80e32fbefe&e=b7e2b89435> op-ed published in the National Post, I spoke of the importance of PSA testing to men and their families. Many of you have also contributed to the conversation and shared your stories with family and friends, and I ask you to continue to do so!

Don't Throw the Baby Out with the Bathwater: Dr. Andrew Loblaw discusses PSA testing

Earlier this month, in partnership with the Canadian Cancer Survivor Network, we hosted an Expert Angle Webinar in which Dr. Andrew Loblaw discussed the benefits and risks of PSA testing, the need to measure baseline PSA to determine prostate cancer risk, and the importance of active surveillance. <http://prostatecancer.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=381dca877e43c44046caa6dd1&id=0f67abc53a&e=b7e2b89435> Watch the recorded webinar on our website today.

PSA Advocacy and Free PSA Testing at our Wake Up Call Breakfasts

Wake Up Call is an unforgettable morning raising funds for research in the fight against prostate cancer. This year, at breakfasts in Toronto and Vaughan, attendees were given the opportunity to get free PSA tests. In Toronto, Todd McMillon spoke passionately about the PSA test and how it can save lives. Todd, a former NFL player, wasn't even 40 when one of his PSA tests found an irregularity - the first step to his eventual prostate cancer diagnosis. Success in Nova Scotia: is your province next?

This month, The Honourable Leo Glavine, Minister of Health and Wellness reiterated that the Government of Nova Scotia would support Prostate Cancer Canada's position on PSA screening, despite the recent guidelines. This is an accomplishment we should all be proud of, and it gives us hope that with your voice and your support, we may see this happen across the country.

Once again I want to thank you for your support. Many of you have already given so much, and I ask you to continue to speak up about the PSA test. Talk to your family, friends, MPPs or MLAs about the importance of the test, and share our website <http://prostatecancer.us2.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=381dca877e43c44046caa6dd1&id=748c623943&e=b7e2b89435> SupportPSATests.ca with others. Together, we can ensure that these dangerous and misguided guidelines are ignored, and that more men will detect prostate cancer early when survival rates are high.

Thank you,

Rocco Rossi
