Hi all:
Below is an e-mail from the Chair of PCCN Toronto sent to the CBC relating
to a program on PSA testing.
If you would read it and send an e-mail to the CBC ( ontariotoday at cbc.ca
)asking for a balanced discussion with a pro-PSA host it would help counter
the recent negative publicity given to PSA testing.
Take care,
Glen

Host, CBC Ontario
I was listening to your program today and very encouraged by the many men
who passionately expressed positions on this issue (unfortunately I was not
provided the opportunity to participate). I am the Chair of the Toronto
chapter of the Prostate Cancer Canada Network of support groups and we have
first hand experience with prostate cancer survivors, their caregivers and
their families (two peer group support sessions each month, sessions with
caregivers, regular visits to clinics at Princess Margaret Cancer Center,
Sunnybrook Hospital, Branson Hospital). PCCN-Toronto is convinced that PSA
screening/ testing saves lives and would like to expose your audience to
this perspective. We also know of the many lives that were lost because of
anti PSA doctors.
Your host today provided the anti PSA position. If this program could be
repeated with a pro PSA host we believe that this would provide a necessary
balance to positions aired out to the public. Our work involves active
collaboration with prostate cancer specialists and a sizable majority of
these specialists strongly favor PSA testing (as evident from recent letters
to newspaper editors). Should you decide to repeat this program we would be
happy to recommend a suitable pro PSA host. Hoping that you give our request
serious consideration. This recent development on PSA testing has been very
discouraging.
Sincerely
Winston Klass
