Subject: Presentation at Valleyview Tuesday June 16th by Dr Alibhai of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
Fellow PCCN-Toronto Volunteers
On Tuesday June 16th Dr Alibhai (Princess Margaret Cancer Centre) will be presenting at the regular Toronto Warriors meeting (Toronto Warriors is a support group for advanced prostate cancer survivors). His presentation and follow up Q&A session will be from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm (latest). Some of you currently on hormone therapy may be interested in the topic...below is a description.
'Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT, or hormone therapy) is widely used to treat prostate cancer in various stages. ADT leads to a variety of side effects that can affect energy, muscle function, bones, diabetes risk, metabolic risk, and falls, among others. These lead to worsening quality of life. One of the most effective treatments to help reduce or avoid many of the side effects of ADT is exercise. Dr. Alibhai is a research scientist of the Canadian Cancer Society and a geriatric oncologist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. He will speak briefly about the use of ADT, its side effects, and provide an update on research looking at the role of exercise in improving those side effects.'
The presentation is in the Boardroom at the Valleyview Residence (the location for regular Tuesday night Peer to Peer meetings) so space is limited; and of course Toronto Warriors will be first priority.
Need to gauge interest outside the Toronto Warrior group; so If you are not a Toronto Warrior and would like to attend please reply to this email indicating your interest.
Cheers
