Like the classic automobiles that he loved to restore, prostate cancer crusader Percy Bedard’s legacy is one that restores the determination that each of us has a voice to make a difference for the one in eight men affected by prostate cancer and their families.

Building on legacies

Developing better treatments

Thanks to the tireless efforts of champions like Percy Bedard, real change is not only made possible, but accelerated into action. Men with advance disease now have another option in the management of their condition.

In the name of all those who have been, are, and will be affected by prostate cancer, PCC continues to increase the pace of discovery by investing in research into the development of drugs that could potentially provide more effective and less toxic treatment of advanced prostate cancer. Funded through PCC <http://prostatecancer.us2.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=381dca877e43c44046caa6dd1&id=e8092ff2b9&e=b7e2b89435> Translation Acceleration Grants (TAG2), these scientific undertakings are aimed at eliminating advanced disease from affected men, not just extending their lives, and must have the potential to enter clinical trials within five years of the beginning of the funding period (Oct. 1, 2014).

Your voice matters

Volunteer Community Representatives

Like Percy, each of us who has been affected by a unique and personal prostate cancer experience has the potential to provide valuable input into how things can be made better for us all. Patients, survivors, caregivers, and family are the ones with front line knowledge and experience that can help steer the future of prostate cancer management in the best possible direction.

As the leading national foundation dedicated to the elimination of the most common cancer in men, PCC can provide such individuals and the communities they represent with a platform upon which to share their powerful insights. One such platform is to become a Volunteer Community Representative. In the role, individuals have the opportunity to:

*	Provide a non-scientific voice on panels that decide upon the direction of prostate cancer research
*	Inform the development and implementation of new and improved services and programs based on first-hand experiences

On Sunday, February 22, Vancouver’s corporate community raised more than $140,000 for Prostate Cancer Canada (PCC) in the second annual Step Up Challenge, presented by Scotiabank. Twenty five teams of five were challenged to climb 5,000ft of stairs while raising a minimum of $5,000.

The money raised from this event will stay in Vancouver to fund two projects at the Vancouver Prostate Centre. One will be led by Dr. Paul Rennie, who is currently working on discovering a hormone resistant drug, and the other by Dr. Christopher Ong, who is investigating the treatment of advanced metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer.

You know by now that the whole eggs are bad for your cholesterol thing is a complete myth. Except for extreme cases of high cholesterol, an egg a day is perfectly healthy and it brings with it omega 3 fat, protein and brain protecting choline.
