The importance of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that 1 in 8 Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, making it the most common cancer in men?

If so, you’re in the minority.

According to an IPSOS Reid poll of 1000 Canadian men over the age of 35 that was conducted in July of this year, 80 per cent of men are not aware of their chances of developing prostate cancer.

Bridging this gap in public knowledge is crucial. If men – the least likely of the sexes to talk about their own health in the first place – don’t know that their chances of developing prostate cancer are as high as they are, they will be less likely to start a conversation with their doctor to better understand their risk. Considering that the survival rate for prostate cancer is more than 90 per cent when detected early, it becomes clear why starting that conversation early is so important.

Prostate Cancer Survivorship Research

Survivorship Grants

Join us in kicking off Prostate Cancer Awareness Month by watching this video detailing the amazing research being done in the area of survivorship (any individual with a diagnosis of cancer through to the end of life. This includes the needs of the partner, family and caregivers throughout the cancer journey and after death). Thanks to our partners at Movember Foundation Canada for the incredible work they do to help us make this research possible!

David's Triumph

A little girl still has her Grandpa

A little girl’s heart broke when she learned that her grandpa – David Southern – had prostate cancer. Her fear of losing her grandpa shows why we’re determined to give men more time with their family. <http://prostatecancer.us2.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=381dca877e43c44046caa6dd1&id=044cad172d&e=b7e2b89435> Read more about David and his family.

Healthy Living: Watered Down

You know you are supposed to drink the darned stuff but water is so boring! Water.

The myth that you need 8 glasses each day is a bit arbitrary. Much depends upon how efficient your cooling system is (as in how sweaty you are) and some depends upon how much high water content (as in fruits and vegetables) foods you eat.
