The Importance of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

1 in 8 Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, making it the most common cancer in men. The need for greater public education is why we have designated September Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, a month dedicated toward engaging and connecting the public, media, academia, and government around a disease that affects us all on some level. Whether it’s a cutting-edge research announcement, a special news feature, a public service announcement, a fundraising event, or a landmark that has been illuminated blue, Prostate Cancer Awareness Month is geared towards spreading the word in as accurate, diverse, and widespread a manner possible.

The Concert I Never Gave...

Eric McCormack brought a night of music and story telling to Vancouver this past August to raise life-saving funds for prostate cancer research! His previously sold out Toronto and Los Angeles concerts hit the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage in support of Prostate Cancer Canada.

“One in eight Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, I know, because my Dad was one of them. I lost him eight years ago and I don’t want my son or your kids to say the same thing,” says Eric, who also lost his mother to bladder cancer.

Mr. Lube Pro Am Tournament for Life

In June and July, Mr. Lube held their annual Pro-Am Tournament For Life in support of Prostate Cancer Canada. With one tournament held in Toronto and the second held in Banff, players came out for a great round of golf, lunch and silent auction. Both tournaments raised a total of $50,000 towards prostate cancer research and awareness. Thank you to Mr. Lube for organizing and hosting this wonderful event.

Convoy for Hope Atlantic

Last month, Convoy for Hope Atlantic brought together big trucks and the people who love them in support of research and awareness for prostate, breast, colon and lung cancers.

74 big rigs were registered this year making it the largest convoy ever.  The convoy made its way from Salisbury, New Brunswick to the Moncton Coliseum, a distance of 38 kilometers. Nearly $40,000 was raised. Special thanks to all who supported the event!

The Blue Tie Ride for the Cure

Thanks to everyone who came out on a rainy Saturday for the 5th Annual Blue Tie Ride! The route took riders from Oshawa to Rice Lake raising $10,000 for prostate cancer research and awareness. Special thanks to organizer Dolly Betancourt and her volunteer committee who worked tirelessly to make the event happen!

10th Annual Halifax Seaport Beer Fest

Prostate Cancer Canada Atlantic was asked once again to be the charity of choice at the 10th annual Halifax Seaport Beer fest on the Halifax Waterfront August 5th and 6th.

Huge thanks to the dozens of volunteers, including the CBC Do Crew who helped assemble our highly coveted pretzel necklaces which were a big hit for beer on the pier patrons!
