Our next meeting should be one of the highlights of the year. Our guest speaker is Dr Andrew Loblaw. Dr Loblaw is a great supporter of PCCN support groups – he has spoken to PCCN Brampton several times and was the contributor to PCCN Toronto’s “Ask The Doctor” column in its latest newsletter. 

 

Dr Loblaw is a Radiation Oncologist, Clinician Scientist, and Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. 

Dr Loblaw’s clinical practice and research interest focus on improving outcomes for men with prostate cancer and the healthcare system. 

 

He has a particular interest in image-guided radiotherapy, in the design and conduct of clinical trials, and the generation and dissemination of evidence-based guidelines for prostate cancer treatment. 

 

We have asked Dr Loblaw to speak about “what’s new in prostate cancer treatment at Sunnybrook”.

Because of his special interest in image-guided radiotherapy, we will hear about the latest approaches to radiation treatments for prostate cancer.

Sunnybrook was the first in Canada to use MRI for real-time guidance of radiation treatments.  

 

In brachytherapy, we have members who have had Low Dose Rate (permanent seed implants) and High Dose Rate (short-term internal radiation) at Sunnybrook. Want to know more? Dr Loblaw participated in a just-released update of Cancer Care Ontario’s guideline on brachytherapy for prostate cancer patients.
