WEDNESDAY FEB 15th - 7:00 PM at the WELLSPRING CENTRE, 2545 SIXTH LINE in OAKVILLE

This month, it’s one of our Discussion Group evenings. For those who are relatively new to our group, this is when we open up to everyone’s issues, concerns and questions and we share our knowledge and experience around the room. Always an interesting night so I look forward to seeing you there.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last month, Dr. Darryl Leong of McMaster University talked to us on “why should men with prostate cancer be concerned about heart disease?”

We all learned more about heart health in general and the specific issues associated with prostate cancer treatments, especially around ADT

Darryl is also starting up a couple of studies specifically on this topic and is recruiting men to take part. For a man to be eligible to take part, they have to have prostate cancer that is either:

•New (i.e. the diagnosis was made within 1 year), or

•Treated with ADT for the first time within 1 month prior to the baseline visit, or

•To be treated with ADT for the first time within 1 month after the baseline visit

So if you think, or know, that ADT might be in your future, you might want to consider being a part of this study. Let me know and I’ll put you in touch with Dr. Leong.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last month, I advised that Reg Kowalchuk is setting up another visit to the University of Toronto (Mississauga) labs of Dr Patrick Gunning to learn more about the exciting cancer research work that his team is doing. Reg tells me that will now happen in first half of March.

You can contact Reg at <mailto:regdorkow at aol.com> regdorkow at aol.com

If you missed Dr Gunning’s presentation or need a reminder on what his work is all about, check here:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you know that there is a large range of valuable prostate cancer publications available from Prostate Cancer Canada. Even if not for you, think about your family, friends, neighbours, golf buddies, etc. (you know, all the people you bug about getting their PSA tested J).

Here’s how to order <http://prostatecancer.ca/Supporting-You/Resources/Booklets-Brochures> http://prostatecancer.ca/Supporting-You/Resources/Booklets-Brochures

Best regards, see you on the 15th

Walter
