Next Meeting:

WEDNESDAY APRIL 18th - 7:00 PM at the WELLSPRING CENTRE, 2545 SIXTH LINE in OAKVILLE

The hits just keep on coming!! Yet again, we have a top-class prostate cancer speaker and researcher coming to Oakville.

Dr. Gerard Morton is a radiation oncologist with special expertise in using brachytherapy and image guided radiotherapy to treat prostate cancer. He heads the brachytherapy program at the Odette Cancer Centre, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and has extensive experience in both permanent seed and high dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy for prostate cancer.

While I am sure we will have an opportunity to ask Dr. Morton about brachytherapy, his primary topic will be “Clinical Trials in Prostate Cancer – why we need them and what we have learned”.

Several of our members are now, or have been, part of a clinical trial at Sunnybrook, PMH or elsewhere. While we know that it isn’t a case of getting a sugar cube or getting the real treatment, we might not know all that goes into setting up a clinical trial and why they are so important to the advances that are being made in prostate cancer treatment. Dr. Morton will be able to show us how Sunnybrook’s leadership in brachytherapy has been advanced by the clinical trials that he and others have carried out over the years.

Please take this opportunity to hear a world-class researcher and leader in his field.

I look forward to seeing you on the 18th.

Walter
