Two Open Reiki Appointments


Friday in Cambridge

Reiki is an ancient healing technique. It is a treatment in which healing energy is channeled from the practitioner to the patient who is sitting or lying quietly to enhance energy and reduce stress, pain and fatigue. Reiki is a simple procedure, consisting of calm and concentrated touching, with the practitioner focusing on healing and giving energy to specific areas on the receiver's body.

Cambridge Meditation

Stress management techniques you can use anywhere

Meditation has been used as a means to achieve healthy thought management by exercising control over thoughts and emotions. In this group program, cancer patients and caregivers are taught mindfulness meditation exercises and are encouraged to practice them at home to the greatest extent possible based on interest and health. This program is especially suited to members who are trying meditation for the first time.

Art Expression

Stress management techniques you can use anywhere

This expressive arts group program provides a community for cancer patients to meet with one another and share in a creative artistic experience. In a safe and confidential setting, members will be instructed in the use of painting and forms of art to create their own pieces. Under the guidance of an Art Therapist, the use of imagery, colours and textures are used to help members identify and explore feelings and gain insights into their experience with cancer. No previous art experience is required.

Breast Cancer and Nutrition

At Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, learn the links between nutrition and breast cancer

In this program you will increase your knowledge related to the role of nutrition and breast cancer. Suggestions for dietary changes to help in the prevention and/or recurrence of breast cancer are covered. Other topics include the impacts of healthy eating and weight, supplements, alcohol, physical activity, phytoestrogens, organic foods, calcium and Vitamin D. Only those who have been a patient or have a family member at GRRCC can be registered at this time.

This one hour workshop is an introduction to the emotional, physiological, physical and practical issues faced by people diagnosed with cancer. Healing Journey One - Coping with Cancer Stress

Starting on your Journey

The Healing Journey provides emotional support, coping strategies and opportunities to network with others. Delivered by experienced professionals, the Healing Journey is a wide-ranging program that includes both small-and-large-group formats, opportunities for discussion and cancer and its impact, demonstration and practice of proving coping strategies and discussion of the spiritual dimensions of cancer.

This is a four-week program. Commitment to attend all four sessions is required. The Healing Journey One is a good starter program for new members. Let us help you in your healing journey.

Healthy Cooking

Healthy food, great times and community

This is a six-week interactive program that promotes fun through participatory food preparation. Nutritional and educational information is shared by our new registered dietitian, Rebecca, on how to handle cancer-related eating challenges and what to eat during treatment. You will share the food prepared by your class. A family member or caregiver is welcome to register and attend with you.

Warm and friendly group for women with cancer

Support among the group is offered, tips are shared and strategies for coping discussed.  A wide range of on top of mind topics are discussed each week including everyday life events, past, present or future. Come discuss concerns about your future cancer treatments, eating problems and relationship issues.  The group is warm and friendly and a good social circle for women with cancer.

Chair Yoga

Practice yoga when getting on the floor cannot be done

Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting in a chair, or standing using a chair for support featuring the many benefits of regular yoga such as gentle stretching, breathing, and visualization. There is no need to get down on the floor, is good for those with knee, hip, and/or back limitations and is available to patients, family members, and caregivers.

Eat Smart, Be Well, a HopeSpring fundraiser is a community event featuring keynote speaker  <https://hopespring.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=245009009133a608181d89b73&id=c1f78dd558&e=ece80c31c3> Jean LaMantia, a cancer survivor, Registered Dietitian, and author of The Essential Cancer Treatment Nutrition Guide and Cookbook. 

Jean shares her inspirational story of beating cancer and the importance of credible nutrition. Educating audiences on how to research their food choices carefully and empowering consumers.
