*Subject:* Prostate cancer meeting in Iceland--hope you can help
I am a journalist (former medical writer at the Sun-Times and an adjunct professor at Northwestern's journalism school) who writes a first-person blog, "A Patient's Journey" for MedPageToday.com about my experiences as a prostate cancer patient.
I am a prostate cancer patient on active surveillance since 2010 cared for at NorthShore University HealthSystem.
I have been helping to organize a new group called Active Surveillance Patients International. We are planning the first international meeting of AS patients in Iceland in October 2019. Our website is ASPIconference.org Here's more on the meeting and its goals:
https://prostatecancerinfolink.net/2018/04/12/on-active-and-proactive-surveillance/
We have confirmed as speakers a who's who of prostate cancer experts, including Dr. Laurece Klotz, who started AS as a concept in Canada 20 years ago; Dr, Otis Brawley, chief science officer of the Ameican Cancer Society; Dr. Jonathan Epstein, the prostate biopsy guru at Hopkins; Dr.
Brian Helfand from Northshore, a genomics expert; and more.
The Prostate Cancer Foundation, the 800-pound gorilla in research; Us Too; Inspire and others are backing this first of its kind program.
I'd like to enlist your help.
*I hoped *you could alert people on your email list about this meeting.
We are looking for volunteers to work on logistics, marketing, accounting and lawyering etc. for the planning group and the board.
If you could let them know, anyone interested could contact me directly or inquire via the form at the website.
I hope we can have a significant representation of Chicago patients in Iceland.
Thanks for any help.
