Subject: Fwd: Privacy of email addresses!!
Glen, Could you please send this to all our Board members and others - I would do it myself, but Windows 10 upgrade has deleted those addresses! :(
Email PRIVACY!
This is an email that I frequently need to send to those not familiar with a serious e-mail address problem! You are not alone!!
I regular receive emails from friends that have inadvertently exposed my email address!! They send to all of their friends instead of bcc ing them! Consequently my address is exposed to all on the list AND to Hackers that may access their computer sometime !!
If ANY of these recipients computers become infected and are “Spammed” then my address is is compromised and I will receive dozens of unwanted emails. (Did you often wonder why you are getting unwanted emails??)
Lets reduce the SPAM emails!! Use bcc !!
Regards,
Michael
Benefits of Using BCC
Using the BCC field to send an email message to a large group of people has a number of benefits, including:
* The privacy of email addresses is protected in the original message. The recipients will receive a copy of your message, but they will not be able to see the addresses of the recipients listed in the BCC field.
* When an email message is forwarded, the addresses of everyone in the To field and the CC field are also forwarded along with the message. Addresses that have been placed in the BCC field are not forwarded.
* If you have placed a large list of recipients in the To or CC field, all of them will receive the reply. By placing recipients in the BCC field, you can help protect them against receiving unnecessary replies from anyone using the “Reply All” feature.
* Many viruses and spam programs are now able to sift through mail files and address books for email addresses. Using the BCC field acts as an anti-spam precaution because it reduces the likelihood that recipients will receive a spam message or a virus from another recipient’s infected computer.
