This month we will have two guests from our major sponsor Astellas Pharma
Canada.

Lynne Vear is Senior Product Specialist and Jennifer Kitchen is Patient
Access Manager.

Astellas is the Canadian distributor for Xtandi (enzalutamide) which has
become widely used as 'second generation hormone therapy' for prostate
cancer. We are very grateful for their financial support to our Group.

While I am sure we will be able to learn a lot from them, this is will not
be a commercial for their drugs. Instead, they will introduce our featured
speaker Robert Kulik from Patient Access Solutions who will talk to us about
the systems and processes for getting new drugs approved in Canada; who pays
for the drugs; and how we as patients can get access to these drugs through
our provincial drug plan or the "exceptional access program" or via clinical
trials. 

Drugs like Xtandi and Zytiga began life as 'last resort' therapy, to be used
after even chemotherapy had failed. Now the studies are showing that these
drugs, and newer versions (apalutamide, darolutamide), have value earlier
and earlier in prostate cancer treatment. They are, however, many times more
expensive than the first line ADT drugs such as Lupron, Zoladex, etc. so
it's important that we understand all we can about how to access them when
we need them. 

This promises to be a great evening on a topic that is already applicable to
some of our members and will be relevant to more of us as time goes by. As
usual, there will be lots of time for questions and answers so come
prepared.

Dr. Andrew Loblaw from Sunnybrook will be speaking at PCCN-Brampton on
Tuesday May 14th at 7 pm. 
His topic will be "Hormone Therapy for Prostate Cancer"
