What is Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday is a global movement that takes place every year after Black Friday where individuals, organizations, and companies come together to support charities! Whether we donate our time or money, every act of kindness helps make our communities better. Last year, Canadians donated $21.9 Million online in just 24 hours!

Why is Giving Tuesday different this year?
The pandemic has created new challenges for all of us and has significantly impacted charities and non-profit organizations like CCSN. The inability to hold in-person events has meant that organizations have needed to transition to online programming quite rapidly, which can be costly. Additionally, the financial burdens created by the pandemic has meant that many people do not have the disposable income to donate to charities as they may have in previous years. No matter what you are able to donate, every dollar helps us achieve our goals of increasing access to cancer care!

What We did in 2020,
What We're Planning in 2021

As proud as we are of the work we have done this year, there is still a lot that CCSN is aiming to do in the new year with your help!

The COVID-19 and Cancer Care Disruption
in Canada Survey

The Canadian Cancer Survivor Network conducted a national survey of 1,243 people (960 cancer patients, 206 caregivers of cancer patients and 77 patients in cancer pre-diagnosis) from May 22 to June 10, 2020, using Leger’s online panel, LEO, and with participation from the broader cancer community to assess the impact that COVID-19 has had on access to cancer care. The results of our survey revealed that the disruption of cancer care due to COVID-19 has triggered another public health crisis.

Our survey was featured in a number of online publications including

CCSN plans to continue to draw attention to COVID-19, provide a voice for cancer patients and caregivers, and work towards ensuring that their care remain a priority.

Virtual Action Week

This year, CCSN hosted our first Virtual Action Week where we met with MPP's throughout Ontario to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on cancer patients and caregivers. We have previously hosted in-person All-Party Cancer Caucuses in Ontario and Alberta. In the future, we want to expand to include more provinces across the country.

Webinar Series

Since the pandemic prevents us from gathering in person, our webinar series has become even more essential. This year, we were able to host 22 webinars and we hope to continue to offer quality programming that covers a variety of cancer-related topics including advocacy, treatments, and health and wellness advice.
