Following a Healing Diet is among the most powerful ways remarkable cancer survivors maximize their chances of healing and recovery. Join Dr. Rob Rutledge and Erin Roman as they provide an overview of the components of a Healing Diet and address many of the issues people have about this controversial topic.
About our presenters:
Dr. Rob Rutledge is a Radiation Oncologist in Halifax, Nova Scotia, specializing in breast, prostate and pediatric cancers. He is also an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University.
In 1999, Rob co-created the ‘Skills for Healing’ Cancer Weekend Retreats. These weekend support groups teach a powerful and integrated approach to the cancer diagnosis and ways to heal at levels of body, mind and spirit. To date, over 2000 people have attended one of 64 retreats in 30 cities across Canada and abroad.
Rob is the CEO and Chair of the Healing and Cancer Foundation, a Registered Charity that freely offers educational videos, documentaries, and live and webcasted seminars. He is co-author of the book The Healing Circle, which captures the teachings and inspirational stories from the weekend retreats.
Rob has received a Cancer Care Nova Scotia Award for Excellence in Patient Care, and Doctors Nova Scotia presented him with a Health Promotion Award in recognition of his contribution to physician health and health promotion in cancer patients.
Erin Roman, BSc., RD, grew up in a family where food harvesting and eating together were central to well-being and connectedness. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition. In this webinar:
Join Alies, a patient partner, and Ambreen, a patient-oriented researcher, as they explore ways to listen and learn from seldom heard patient populations. Both speakers share their experiences in the world of patient engagement, discuss the need to include patient-identified priorities in the delivery of healthcare and reflect on the current structure of patient partnerships which can be exclusionary. As a way forward, Alies and Ambreen introduce Equity-Mobilizing Partnerships in Community (EMPaCT) as an approach which strives to centre diverse patient voices, create a culture of listening and learning from the experiences of patient partners and develop a learning healthcare system ecosystem which is responsive to the needs of all patients in order to improve health outcomes, in particular health equity.
About our presenters:

She is on the Board of the Inner City Health Team which focuses on the homeless population. PAN is a fully independent association of patient partners in Canada and as such, is unique.
