Don't miss out on Dr.  Ilie and Dr. Rutledge's session, '7 ways to empower yourself after a prostate cancer diagnosis.'

Dr. Ilie is an Endowed Soillse Scientist in Prostate Cancer Quality of Life Research and an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Community Health and Epidemiology, and Urology at Dalhousie University.  Her research in quality of life examines the needs and challenges of men diagnosed with prostate cancer and actions the findings into tangible patient education and empowerment programs aimed at improving the lives of these cancer survivors. 

Dr. Rob Rutledge is a Radiation Oncologist in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University. He is also the CEO and Chair of the Healing and Cancer Foundation, a registered charity that freely offers educational videos, documentaries, and webcasting seminars.

Time permitting, the second portion of our meeting will provide an opportunity for small group discussion and sharing utilizing Zoom's breakout rooms segmented by treatment type: ADT (Hormone Therapy), Advanced Prostate Cancer, Active Surveillance, Radiation, and Surgery.

This group is a safe space for partners regardless of sex, gender, or relationship to patient, to share their experiences and hear from others who have navigated this journey too.

May 13th marked the first meeting of our nationwide Active Surveillance support group and saw patients from 7 provinces, and even a few guys from the US, come together to discuss AS.

This new nationwide support group aims to bring together prostate cancer patients and advocates who will empower men newly diagnosed with low-risk and intermediate prostate cancer by providing them with the latest information to help them make informed decisions with their physicians regarding approaches to active surveillance.

Micro-ultrasound imaging: A new view of the prostate

Active Surveillance Patients International is holding a webinar on micro-ultrasound, a hot new imaging technique that helps detect prostate cancers that mpMRI can miss.

The session will be at 12:00-1:30 pm ET  May 29. It features:

Dr. Gerald L. Andriole Jr., MD, Chief of the Division of Urology. Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis. Dr. Andriole, an expert in imaging the prostate,  is a pioneer in the micro-ultrasound technique.

Brian Wodlinger, PhD, VP, Engineering and Clinical, Exact Imaging, Markham, Ontario, Canada, manufacturer of ExactVu.

Joe Gallo, a moderator for AnCan/Us Too’s AS virtual support group and a board member of ASPI, who has undergone microultrasound in diagnosing his cancer and also a micro ultrasound-guided biopsy. Joe will share with us his recent diagnosis of GL 4+4 and where he is in his own journey.

The discussion will be followed by a question-and-answer period.
