Position:       Lecturer B in Drama
                (within the Assistant Professor range)
 
Closing date:   October 14 1994
 
        The Department of Drama invites applications for the above
position to commence February 1995. The position is offered on a
tenurable basis and the salary is in the range AUD$41,574-49370.
 
        Essential criteria for the position are: a research post-graduate
degree in Drama (or in exceptional cases, a cognate discipline); teaching
experience in Drama at a tertiary level including practical skills; relevant
administrative and organisational experience and the ability to
communicate effectively with staff and students. Applicants must also
possess a knowledge of a range of: contemporary forms of performance;
modernist performance or various aspects of theatre history; practical
performance skills.
 
        Desirable criteria include a Ph.D. , professional performance skills
and an experience in performer training.
 
        The University of Newcastle is situated approximately 145
kilometers north of Sydney and operates two campuses - in Newcastle and
at Ourimbah which is halfway between Newcastle and Sydney. It is
expected that most of the teaching and administration of the Drama
curriculum will take place at Ourimbah although close contact will be
maintained with the main campus in Newcastle in terms of teaching and
involvement in the formal activities of the Department.
