Dear List Members:

I received the following message from Betty Brightwell this morning
concerning the CBC Petition.

>
>Dear Friends,
>
> Thank you all for your tremendous response. I have spent 5
>weeks
>forwarding your names to the Prime Minister & to the Deputy Prime Prime
>Minister. I have also printed hundreds of names for the Chairman of the
>CBC. Now, however, I think we must cease & desist! There are just too
>many messages for me to handle! I have presented a huge pile of printed
>messages to MP
>David Anderson (see letter below) and as of Dec. 1, I find I am
>still,
>daily, emailing nearly 50 messages to Ottawa in 1 large batch to the PM,
>Deputy PM, MP
>David Anderson & my own Reform MP Keith Martin, this includes your email
>message below.)
>
> If you wish, you can write to the following
>
> The Right Hon. Jean Chretien: at pm at pm.gc.ca
>
> Hon. Sheila Copps at Sheila_Copps at 16139922727.iddd.tpc.int
>(this is a fax machine)

> Electronic "Petition" to Save CBC Radio
> An Exercise in Electronic Democracy
>
>1. I recognize that legally the "petition" I am giving to
>your care has no official status. It was crafted quickly and sent out
>to a list of twenty-five friends. The "petition", over three weeks,
>spawned to many thousands of Canadians in Canada and Canadians overseas
>who wrote back to me signifying that they do not wish your government to
>make cuts to CBC radio.
>
>2. I hope that you, as our MP will do three things with this
>"petition":
>
> A. Report to your government that you have received this
>overwhelming response to an adverse decision,
>
> B. Personally hand this "petition" to Mr. Perrin Beatty,
>Chairman of the CBC,
>
> C. Ensure that I get a response to the petition, and to the
>concept of electronic democracy, in writing, from the government and
>from Mr. Beatty.
>
>3. I have e-mailed each of these petitions to the Prime Minister,
>though I doubt he has read them. Copies of most have also gone to the
>Deputy Prime Minister.
>
> We now ask that you be our messenger and ensure that our
>concern is listened to and responded to by Government.

> Yours respectfully,
