cloud nine

I am directing a production of "Cloud Nine" for a March presentation.
Regarding the songs, have any of you done the play with fewer than the
number indicated in the script? I plan to use the opening and the Christmas
carol sung by "Joshua", but the title tune mystifies me a bit--if you've
done the show with the song, please help me to consider what is happening
while it is sung.
