Subject: PERFORMANCE RESEARCH - CALL FOR PAPERS
Priority:      normal
Reply-to:      liveart at mailbase.ac.uk

Performance Research is welcoming proposals for contributions to the
forthcoming issue `On America'.

INFORMATION FOR CONTRIBUTORS

`On America' will be Volume 3, Issue 1 of Performance Research and
will be edited by Nick Kaye.

Deadlines are as follows:

Proposals: 31st August 1997
Finalised material: 15th September 1997
Publication: April 1998

Format (malleable): 128pp; articles 2,000-4,000 and 6,000 words;
textual/photographic profiles of artists' work; interviews;
photographic works for the page (prepared pages); performance
reviews; archive review.

`On America' will respond to the powerful presence in contemporary
culture of aesthetic forms and political strategies derived from
North America. Counterpointing Performance Research 2:1, `Letters
from Europe', the issue will address the use and abuse of images of
and from North America, the deconstruction in performance theory and
practice, of North American art, film and performance, and the
presentation of America as genre and fiction. With contributions from
theatre-makers, artists, theorists and critics outside North America,
as well as those concerned with or working at the cultural or
aesthetic fringes within the Americas, the issue will debate the
persistent influence of North American cultural products and
practices, providing a forum for debate over cultural hegemony and
displacement, identity and aesthetic practice.

Proposals, articles or enquiries should be sent to either:

Nick Kaye, School of Theatre Studies, University of Warwick, Coventry
CV4 7AL, UK.

or: Clancy Pegg (Administrator) Performance Research, Market Road,
Cardiff CF5 1QE, UK.

e-mail: post at perfres.demon.co.uk
