Theatre and critics

I'm just curious (having been in several imbroglios myself): How does this
group think that a theatre, miffed at a critic, should respond to a critic.

When I started in the business, with PR at Centaur, my boss told me never
to go after a critic, you never knew when you might need them. I've had
companies blacklist me one year, then court me for a cover story the next.
So I'd just like to know if there's agreement about how a critic should be
handled (or not). Or is this just too much of a hot-button issue.
